can i install 3/4 solid hardwood flooring over pressboard

  Yes you can as long as it's advantech if it's not then no you can't unless you glue it down

  This is not a good idea. With the movement of the building and the movement of the floor as you walk over it will cause the nails to act like saws on the pressboard or particleboard. The nails will eventually lose their grip.
